About Us

LeAnn:  I've been teaching for 19 years with 15 of them in 4th grade. I have a masters in Educational Curriculum, and am GATE certified. Also I am a i21 Digital Teacher Leader and am a Master Teacher for student teachers. I love technology, arts and crafts, helping new teachers, and making students love learning. I teach in a public school in San Diego and come from a family of teachers. I am the youngest triplet and the ballerina on the left.

JoAnn: I go by "Jody," and I taught high school English for eight years before staying home with my kids. I am a freelance writer with hundreds of columns and articles in print. I've recently released Miss Spelling Helen, a humorous middle grade chapter book about the trials of spelling for a kid who just doesn't get it. As a UCI Writing Project Fellow, mentor teacher, and now sister blogger, I can't wait to connect with other teachers about language arts and teaching writing. By the way, I'm the right ballerina and the middle triplet too!

  1. Dear Ms. Leyden, My granddaughter has chosen Mission San Gabriel for her 4th grade project and I saw the perfect book on Amazon, written by you and Jody Payne. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a printed version, only a digital copy. I was wondering if you would be kind enough to let me know if it is possible to obtain a printed copy of this book? I called the Mission San Gabriel Gift Shop but they do not have the book. I think this would be the perfect reference material for her to do her research on this particular Mission. Thank you so much for any help you can let me have. Sandra
